Abstract: The island will have mixed-use walkable neighborhoods and more than 80 hotels and resorts - plus up to 30 percent of its energy needs will come from renewable sources.

Dubai is poised to gain a new, elegant beachfront address. With a total area of 13.4 square kilometers, the new Palm Jebel Ali is twice the size of the Palm Jumeirah and will mark a major new milestone in Dubai's development.

With stunning waterfalls, expansive green spaces and a unique waterfront experience, the project will add approximately 110 kilometers of coastline to Dubai. Approximately 35,000 families will be able to enjoy unparalleled luxury beachfront living at the site.

"Every day we are adding new bricks to the puzzle of building the most beautiful city in the world," tweeted His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as he approved the new futuristic development master plan for the Palm Jebel Ali.

Dubai has several man-made islands, the most prominent of which are the Palm Jumeirah and the Palm Jebel Ali. Shaped like a palm tree shaped archipelago, these islands are architectural marvels reclaimed from the sea.

The Palm Jebel Ali will feature a mixed-use, walkable community that incorporates smart city technologies and sustainable practices and provides diverse transportation options for residents, visitors and the community. Up to 30 percent of the island's energy needs will be sourced from renewable energy sources.

Sheikh Mohammed said Dubai will continue to innovate and deliver world-class lifestyle destinations to enhance its position as the best city in the world to live, work and visit." He said, "We have great ambitions for the future and we are confident that our ambitious development vision will become a reality." The Jebel Ali Palm will further strengthen our urban infrastructure and cement the city's position as one of the world's leading metropolises."

He further added that Dubai has entered a new phase of development driven by innovation and creativity." Dubai's competitiveness and reputation as a thriving global business and tourism hub will grow further by taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the changing global environment. We remain committed to shaping a brighter future for our people and the world," he said.

While the island will feature more than 80 hotels and resorts and a wide selection of entertainment and recreational facilities, the archipelago will become a desirable residential destination in the city.

The visionary project is being undertaken by Nakheel, a Dubai-based real estate master developer. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shabani, chairman of the company, said: "We are honored to embark on a groundbreaking journey of unprecedented scale with the new master plan for The Palm Jebel Ali. This mega project was inspired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and will mark a new milestone in the city's continued development."

The Palm Jebel Ali will raise the global benchmark for waterfront living, providing residents, families and visitors with exceptional luxury living facilities, supporting the goals of Dubai's Economic Agenda D33 and cementing Dubai's position as one of the world's top cities for business and tourism. The project also marks the beginning of a new growth corridor in the Jebel Ali region, underscoring the emirate's expansion.
